BVI Billfish Tournament

Day 3 - Final

The final day of the BVI Billfish Tournament at the Bitter End Yacht Club was perhaps the best of the week — sunny (touch of haze), with just a mild swell. And the North Drop was alive! 2007 tourney winner Black Gold (Harry Sargeant, American Custom 65) had yet another good day, releasing three more Blue Marlin, maintaining their overall lead, and sealing their overall victory!  2011 winner Therapy  (George Lorton, Hatteras 68) held onto second place, also releasing three Marlin. Gary Domel’s Cabo 48 Deguello scored one final day release to finish third overall. Among the top three boats, 18 Blue Marlin were released in just three days!

1st  Black Gold - 4,000 points

2nd  Therapy - 3,000 points

3rd Deguello - 2,000 points

Day 2 Update!

Day 2 dawned clearer and brighter than Day 1, and the lead boats headed out just north of Anegada, to the eastern part of the fabled North Drop, and extension of the “Puerto Rico Trench.” This area is considered by many to be among the best Blue Marlin fisheries on Earth. 2007 winner Black Gold (Harry Sargeant, American Custom 65) had another good day, releasing three Blue Marlin. Gary Domel’s Cabo 48 Deguello scored two releases to move into a tie on points with 2011 winner Therapy  (George Lorton, Hatteras 68), but Therapy holds second based on release times. Among the top three boats, 11 Blue Marlin have been released in just two days! Competitors had lines in at 8:00 am this morning. The tournament concludes this afternoon. Stay tuned for the final report and photos!
