Meet Bitter End's Top Staff-the 21 Service Stars!

Get to Know Bitter End’s Service Stars and 2007-2008 Employees of the Year!

Bitter End Yacht Club honored 21 Service Stars and named the 2007-2008 employees of the year at the annual Employee International Fun Day celebration held on Monday, July 28th 2008, at the resort. Along with employees, families and friends look forward to this special party held annually before the staff depart for their own vacation adventures.

Bitter End’s Service Stars are those employees who exemplify hospitality by their consistent delivery of stellar service to everyone who visits Bitter End during the year. These Service Star employees, with their “can do” attitude and attention to detail help create countless unforgettable vacation experiences at Bitter End, and are some of the reasons why guests return year after year.

On behalf of your fellow staff, the managers and the Hokin family, congratulations!

Front of House Employee of the Year  Mrs. Sandra Etienne, works as a Guest Services Agent so you will usually find her at the Reception Desk, or offering a cool towel to you when you step off the North Sound Express ferry. Her hobbies are singing, traveling, and she enjoys meeting and helping people. (Started at Bitter End May 2000)

Back of House Employee of the Year  Mr. Sewh Ramgobin works behind the scenes as a Utilities Technician, but without him and his fellow Utilities team members (two more of whom are among our 21 Stars!), Bitter End could not welcome so many visitors from around the world so efficiently and seamlessly. His hobbies range from playing cricket and soccer to reading. (October 1987)

Mr. John Emanuel, also a member of the Utilities Technician team likes to fish, go swimming and dance the evening away under the stars. Mr. Emanuel has been with Bitter End since 1975!

Mr. Dexter Noel is the third Utilities Technician to make our 21 Service Stars list, and he likes to do a little traveling, and enjoys playing sports. (November 1987)

Mr. Ramon Sanchez, one of Bitter End’s Pub Cooks (dishing up the best pizza in the BVI!), is originally from the Dominican Republic and he enjoys playing basketball and softball. (May 2005)

Ms. Ann-Gloria Samuel works as the Canteen Supervisor, ensuring our staff get fed efficiently and well. Her hobbies are singing and cooking, and she runs a tight ship at home too! (May 1984)

Mrs. Gem Bain is a Cook in the Clubhouse, working alongside her husband, Randolph, a Sous Chef. Ms. Bain enjoys sewing and “limin’” or having fun. Mrs. Bain’s name may be familiar to many guests – her delicious and unique soups are Bitter End menu classics. (May 1993)

Ms. Maria Willie is a Kitchen Assistant, and makes sure that the kitchens run smoothly and efficiently. Ms. Willie enjoys reading and singing, among other hobbies. (December 2004)

Mr. Elvis McKenzie works as a Steward at Bitter End, so as long as he keeps going, Bitter End keeps going! Mr. McKenzie’s hobbies include playing football and cricket, and he enjoys visiting serene places for a bit of reading and meditation. (February 1998)

Ms. Annie Linton makes sure Bitter End’s guests are comfortable as possible in her role as a Room Attendant. Ms. Linton enjoys cooking and reading. (November 1987)

Mr. Newfus Browne whisks guests and their belongings around the resort as a Bellman/Taxi Driver, and believe it or not, he enjoys driving during his free time, in addition to swimming and venturing out to new places. (November 1991)

Ms. Glendora Alfred is a Room Inspectress at Bitter End, ensuring that rooms are neat and comfortable for guests after they’ve spent the day traveling or on the water. Her hobbies are crocheting and cooking, traveling and baking. (January 1985)

Mr. Samuel Jones is one of Bitter End’s Jacks-of-All-Trades, working as a Night Auditor, our IT Specialist, and occasionally North Sound Express Mate. Because most of his work is behind the scenes, guests are likely to catch a glimpse of him on the water (either on the ferry, or) doing one of his favorite activities:  windsurfing! He also enjoys fishing, swimming and practically anything that involves the sea. (February 1991)

Ms. Merlyn Campbell-Richards is someone many guests have encountered in the Clubhouse Restaurant, where she is a Waitress. She enjoys singing and meeting new people. (July 1986)

Mrs. Yolanda Williams works as a Sales Clerk at Bitter End, and since she enjoys shopping herself, she really understands how to best help her customers at Bitter End. Mrs. Williams doesn’t seem to ever slow down: she also enjoys cooking, staying fit and decorating! (May 2007)

Mr. Jerome Rand started this past year as a Sailing Instructor at Bitter End, and in addition to spending time on boats, enjoys spending time “strapped in,” kiteboarding or windsurfing. (November 2007)

Mrs. Marva Waters is also a Sales Clerk, where her joy of spending time within her own community as well as her joy of traveling are certainly reflected in her work. (May 2001)

Mr. Palus Bacchus is a Cook for the Clubhouse Restaurant, and you might think that would be enough time in the kitchen, but he enjoys cooking for his family at home too! (May 1987)

Mr. Anthony Lewis is a Night Janitor, a team member with perfection as his goal. He starts his workday while many of us are winding down so that the resort is fresh no matter the time of day. (April 1998)

Mr. Carlton Thomas, also a night owl, is a Night Maintenance team member, working behind the scenes to make sure that everything runs smoothly at Bitter End. (April 1989)

Mr. Kinto Sprauve, as many guests already know, is Captain of Ponce De Leon, our snorkel excursion boat. He doesn’t spend enough time on the water during his workday, apparently, because when he’s not groovin’ with the guests, Kinto enjoys volleyball, fishing and swimming. (July 1996)

The next time you’re at Bitter End, stop in the Lobby Building, where you can see Bitter End’s Wall of Stars!
