From theory, beachside simulator work and basic techniques to extensive on the water practical work featuring straight line sailing, tacking, jibing and the advanced elements of harnesses. Using footstraps and water starts. Taught by our expert instructors from the Sailing School – you’ll be sailing in no time!


The two hour sessions include:

• Basic Sailing Theory
• Simulator and Basic Rigging
• Straight Line Sailing, Beginner Tacking and Jibing
• Advanced Tacking and Jibing
• Introduction to Transition Boards and Sailing without Daggerboards
• Introduction to Harnesses, Footstraps and Carved Jibes
• Introduction to Waterstarts, "Freesailing" with Instructors

Statia Sound, in the lee of a large natural reef, features flat water to a mild chop. Near constant side-on easterly tradewinds, 250 days a year are over 15 knots. Winter winds are 20-25 knots. This is great for speed sailing, course racing and chop hopping on slalom boards. Short boards and 4.4s for winter winds lure the experienced shredder to the pumping breezes and way-out waves around the reef. Imagine a side-on high wind funnel . . . great for sprint sailing, water starts, and duck jibing.
