"We look forward to coming, and we always leave happy."
Resort Manager Mary Jo Ryan recently sat down to chat with Don Niederpruem and his wife Annette, and daughter Carrie. Long time North Soundings readers may remember that the Niederpruems were Mary Jo’s featured “Most Romantic Couple” back in 1994 (before their daughter was born). They first vacationed at Bitter End in 1991, and have returned 17 times since, three times with their daughter along with them.
MJR: What keeps you all coming back?
DN: The Bitter End has a unique ability to refresh and renew itself. Each year we come back, it’s the same, but it’s different. There are so many activities to do, whether it’s sailing, going to the beach, or just doing nothing. Some years we are more active than others. And since we’ve been coming with our daughter, we tend to do things that are more interesting for her. We particularly like the friendly staff, and the secure surroundings.
AN: It’s nice to be able to allow Carrie to go back to the room and walk around the premises and not be worried about anything (safety-wise). And I just like the easiness of everything. Everything is right here at your fingertips. [Including boats like the Bradley 22s, a family favorite]
MJR: What do you like about the Bradley 22s?
CN: I like going to different places and other islands and beaches, and going snorkeling, and just exploring.
MJR: What’s your favorite thing to do while you are here at Bitter End?
CN: I think going to the beach, and going swimming.
MJR: If there is anything you would want to change, what would it be?
DN: Anything that we’d come up with would be wrong! We like the fact that you are always freshening the fleet, the rooms, and the menus in the restaurant. We do use the Bradleys a lot, because we enjoy the island hopping theme. We also use the Hobies a lot. You guys seem to understand what your guests want, and you anticipate their needs, and that’s shown by the amazing number of repeat customers you have. If it got old and boring, we’d all find other places to go. In this day and age, there are a lot of choices. We debate every year, but always choose to come back (to BEYC). We find that we look forward to coming, and we always leave happy.
