If you have been to Bitter End, you have no doubt encountered at least one of our February 2009 Service Stars; if you are on your way to visit for the first time, allow us to introduce you to some friendly faces before you reach our shores! We quite proud!
Director of Human Resources Delores Creque has hit the nail on the head when it comes to describing our Stars . . .
Ms. Gillian Edwards: (second from the left) Working at the Bitter End since March 2008, the freshman of the group, Gillian is one of the friendliest faces guests encounter at our retail outlets. Gillian is already well known and appreciated by fellow co-workers, for her “can do” attitudewillingness to always lend a helping hand. Gillian's favorite part of the work: “In the retail outlets you get the chance to really interact with the shoppers, find out what brought them to the hotel, if they are enjoying their stay and so on. It adds that personal touch to the job.” Gillian has adopted the “Yes We Can” as her personal mantra, “…no request is too big once it makes the guest feel appreciated and valued”
Mr. Marcellus Roberts: (left) A native of St. Vincent, when Marcus first started working at The Bitter End in 1992, he knew it was the place for him. Working in the Maintenance Department, you will usually see Marcus on his golf cart always on the go to help “save the day.” No matter how on the go he is, Marcus always finds time to have a friendly chat with passersby who stop him for assistance. He says “ in the department that I work, I rarely get time to talk with the guests, I like talking to new people as much as possible and I know that each department, no matter how small, always works with the common goal, to make these guests happy.” With sentiments like that, its no wonder Marcus is the “go to” guy among his fellow coworkers.
Mr. Newfus Browne: (right) If there was ever a time when you couldn’t find Newfus “Power” Browne multitasking on the job, then you must have mistaken him for someone else. Power is truly happiest when he is constantly on the go. Although he works as a Bellman, it is not uncommon to see Power assisting tirelessly in other departments on property. A native of St. Vincent, Power has been employed at The Bitter End since 1991; this is his second consecutive year winning a Service Star of The Month award. On his work ethic, Power says, “I think my idea of retirement might be to one day work a 40-hour week.”
Mr. Samuel Jones: (second from the right) The “Bill Gates” of The Bitter End Yacht Club. “Jones” as he is affectionately known, works as a Day Auditor in the Accounting Department, but has proven himself to be a formidable computer technician. Management, staff and even guests have been known to rely on Jones for their technological needs. A native of St. Kitts, Jones has been working at the Bitter End since 1991, and goes by the motto "The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work." On his off days you can always catch Jones windsurfing around the resort putting some of the Watersports guys to shame. He loves what he does at the resort, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
